Outside of her work as a principal with Laksha Investments LLC, Afshan Laksha enjoys traveling. One of Afshan Laksha’s favorite destinations is Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra that is also known as Bombay.
One of Mumbai’s most notable attractions, the Gateway of India is beautifully constructed and located not far from the Port of Mumbai. Dating back to 1911, the monument was built to commemorate the first visit of the king and queen of England to India.
Another top attraction is the Elephanta caves, which serve as a Hindu shrine. Shiva and Parvati, two deities, are carved into rocks throughout the cave, some of which are more than 1,500 years old.
To get a glimpse of India’s fauna, individuals can head to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which boasts more than 270 species of birds. Visitors may also see monkeys, leopards, foxes, and deer.
Bollywood fans keen for an opportunity not only to see makeup rooms and heritage cinemas, but also to take some photos with Bollywood stars should sign up for a behind-the-scenes Bollywood tour. Mumbai remains the seat of India’s film industry.
Afshan Lakha cofounded Lakha Investments Company with her husband. Recreationally, Afshan Lakha enjoys traveling and trying new foods and counts Tokyo among her favorite destinations.
Known for having some of the world’s best restaurants, Tokyo offers a wide variety of delicious food, including shabu-shabu. This meal consists of a light broth served very hot with thinly sliced meats and vegetables. Shabu-shabu also comes with various dipping sauces to finish off the meal.
For a purely indulgent food, travelers should try tamagoyaki, a grilled egg omelet that is sweetened and served on a stick. The warm meal has a very unique texture and flavor that most people love.
Travelers would be remiss if they did not visit the Tsukiji Market for some of the freshest sushi available anywhere in the world.
People with a sweet tooth should try one of the many matcha desserts available around the city, from ice cream to pastries. A recent addition to the Tokyo dessert scene is the Pablo cheesecake, which has melted, flowing cheese when diners cut into it.
Possessing nearly two decades of experience as a business owner, Afshan Lakha serves as a partner and co-owner of Lakha Investment Company, LLC, a commercial real estate investment firm in Bellevue, Washington. Beyond her work with the business, Afshan Lakha supports various charities and organizations in her area, including the Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB).
One of the largest ballet companies in the United States, the PNB recently partnered with Pixvana to create a three-minute virtual reality (VR) film called Silent Resonance, directed by Scott Squires, the creative director and CTO of Pixvana, and choreographed by Price Suddarth, a PNB company dancer. Miles Pertl and Emma Love Suddarth, dancers from the PNB, are featured in the film.
After debuting at Point to the Stars, a PNB fundraising event, Silent Resonance is now available on Facebook 360 and YouTube 360. The film is the ballet company’s first VR experience and was designed to help new audiences explore the movement of dance.
